Hi,

Is it possible that the PROfessional version load only works 2 times faster than the CLASSIC version for this particular form? We have been using this type of test only for the past several months. This is the kind of data that we would like to speed up when we run this several times a yr.

Using the PRO version, it takes us 41 minutes to load 783 records into a worksheet form. That is 3.14 seconds per record. All we are loading for the test are 7 columns. An ACCOUNT_COMBINATION string, a service_package name and five $ amounts.

I'll give you some of the basics regarding our environment if this helps:
1) What version of Oracle Applications do you use (11.5.8, 11.5.9, 11.5.10, etc)? 11.5.10
2) What version of Oracle Forms does your system use? (Select Help->About Oracle Applications in 11i to find the version number; it will begin 6.0.8.x). Forms and Reports Services 6.0.8.11.0
3) What is the value of the OCX: Forms Launcher profile option value for the playback user? Patch of Forms and Reports Services 6.0.8.13.0

The Pro version is very good at moving very quickly and accurately between form fields and entering data. In most forms, regardless of whether you are entering data manually or using a Macro load, most of the time it takes to enter a record is spent navigating between fields and entering data. A comparatively small amount of time is spent with Oracle validating data or saving the record, etc.

DataLoad Pro will reduce the time you take to move between fields and enter data to a tiny amount for each record. However, it cannot speed up the time it takes for Oracle to validate and/or save data, since this is dependant on Oracle's code.

In most forms the Pro loads will work many, many times faster than a Macro load because the limiting factor for most Macro loads is the navigation between fields. However, if it takes, say, 2 seconds to save the record then DataLoad Pro will never be able to enter a record in less than 2 seconds. To speed up such loads you need to do some Oracle tuning so it saves the record in less time. With Macro loads where a greater proportion of the time than usual is spent saving data rather than navigating between fields, such as on forms where you use just a few fields and the save performance is poor, the move to Pro loads will not see the massive performance improvement you see in most loads.

However, the load should still be faster and you still get the benefits of far improved reliability and the load can run in the background on your PC while you do other work. It is also easier with Pro loads to have multiple loads running in parallel, and more than one load can run at the same time on one PC. That can obviously help greatly where the underlying form performnace is the limiting factor for your load.

I cannot be sure that what I have described above applies to your load but this is the most likely explanation.
