Is it possible to have both Dataload Classic and Dataload Pro installed on my PC at the same time, thereby allowing me to revert back to Classic if I need to?

I just received the key for Pro but am concerned with the learning curve and want to have the ability to go back to Classic until I've learned Pro sufficiently.

Appreciate any feedback.

Yes, and No Wink .

I use both Classic and Professional on a regular basis on the same PC.

There is only one program. It can process both Classic and Professional loads. Classic uses the Windows clipboard to copy and paste data from the PC to the server and uses the Sendkeys macro to simulate the pressing of individual keys on the keyboard. Professional uses the Record and Playback facilities in Oracle Forms.

Classic runs on your PC, and you can't do any other work while a Classic load is running. Professional runs on the server, only using the PC for display purposes, so you can read your email, browse the web or open another Oracle Apps window and work on something else while the Professional load is running - provided it is a big load. With a small load, it will happen so quickly you won't have time!! Smile

The free version (without the licence key) will allow you to save Professional files containing up to 5 records. This should be enough to allow interested users to prove that it works, but is not enough to do any serious production work.

I'll post some more in answer to your other question.

Cool HTH

Thanks for the replies, David. So, if I understand you correctly, I can go ahead and install the Pro version but will still be able to use either the classic or Pro versions as I wish, correct? Do both versions have to be installed from the same folder, i.e. where the license key is? And, are they both invoked from the same icon (.exe file)?

There is only one program, dataload.exe, and the latest version is V4.3.7.0

The one program can do both Classic and Professional. If you load a .dld file, you will get Classic functionality. If you load a .fld file you will get Professional functionality.

Without the licence key, DataLoad can only save .fld files of up to 5 lines. With the licence key, it can save files of an unlimited size. That is what the licence key does. It removes the limit of 5 lines. (It also adds the functionality for "Load Control", but let's ignore that for now.)

If you already have V4.3.7.0 installed, then put your regkey.dat into the same folder as the dataload.exe file. The next time you start DataLoad, there should be an option to "Register Professional". I think that this should be under "Help", but I can't find it, perhaps because I have already registered. You should not have to reinstall.

If you have an older version installed, or want to reinstall V4.3.7.0, then the install process will ask you for the location of your regkey.dat file. After installation, you should put your regkey.dat into the same folder as the DataLoad executable (dataload.exe), then during upgrades, the program should be able to find it automatically.

Cool HTH

David.

I think David summed that up perfectly so thanks for your help. I would like to reiterate that DL Pro does everything that Classic can do with the addition of Forms Playback, etc. Thus while you are learning Forms Playback in Pro you can continue to use the Macro (DLD) loads that you originally used in Classic.

Jonathan Stuart
