When you say that DataLoad Pro has special functionality for Oracle Applications, does that same functionality work with forms developed with Oracle Forms?

Hi,

Firstly, I do not work for DataLoad or for Edenbrook. I am just a user, but I have been using DataLoad since I worked at Oracle Corp., from 1996-2000, as a Financial Apps Consultant. I have only been using DataLoad Professional for about 6 months, but I am now a great fan.

I would think that it will work with non-Oracle-Applications forms, but here is some background (from my own understanding, as a user). First of all, the DBA has to alter some settings, so that Oracle Forms can record and play back files. Then the user "records" two or more transactions. Then the resultant "record" file is loaded into DataLoad, which interprets it. Then the user can add some more data, and file the result as a "playback" file, which is put back on the server, where Oracle Forms can be instructed to play it back. Since it is Oracle Forms that is doing the clever stuff (not Oracle Applications), I would imagine that DataLoad Professional will work with in-house applications written using Oracle Forms.

The Classic version of DataLoad will allow you to record and play back up to five records, which is enough to let you try it out without giving you Production-strength capabilities. Why not ask your Developer to write a very simple form and ask your DBA to work through the Setup section of the manual at http://www.dataload.net/help/recplay/ and try it out for yourselves?

Cool HTH

The Macro loads (.dld file extension) work with Oracle Forms as well as Oracle Applications (in fact the Macro loads will load into just about anything on your PC). The Forms Playback loads (.fld file extension) use a technology built-in to Oracle Forms so in principle could be used with any application built on Oracle Forms, however DataLoad will only edit Forms Playback loads recorded with Oracle Applications. DataLoad could be changed to edit Forms Playback files generated with any Oracle Forms based application but there has not been the demand for us to make this change.

Regards,

Jonathan
