Trying to review the DataLoad functionality for something I want to automate.

I want to automate updating data in a windows app. I don’t really see a search capability for DataLoad to find a record I want to update, make changes, and save it.

Also, if I choose to just delete existing data and add it all new, I need to select from a drop down list. I can’t just paste the value into the field. I can only type 1 character, which partially filters the list and then I need to select a value from the list. I looked at DataLoad's approach of selecting a value from a drop down list, but it seems you need to know the ordinal position in the list. These lists are always changing and the ordinal positions change as well. Is there a better way to select from the drop down lists?
